Chinese Motion-Directional Construction: A Conceptual and Cognitive Analysis
This paper proposes an analysis of the Motion-Directional Construction(MDC) in the Chinese language in the Conceptual-Cognitive approach as outlined by Jackendoff and Langacker. It provides further conceptual support and evidence for the position that the MDC in Chinese consists of syntactic and semantic subordination, and that by means of case study, it posits that motion verbs in Chinese typically express manners of movement.
Explaining Urban Economic Governance: The City of Macao
This paper traces the root causes of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government’s inability to regulate the city's major economic issues. From a historical and institutional perspective, the author illustrates and analyses the dynamic relationship between economic regulation and urban politics on a rapidly-growing urban island facing various governance challenges.
