摘要

This study points to the existence of “two sources” and of a“detour” and “shortcut” as the major stumbling block. The author believes that no discussion of Cathay will be relevant and truly productive without tracing it to its very source : a small corpus culled discriminatingly from some of the best classical Chinese poets. Nor will there be any depth, accuracy and justification of thoughts on which we base our arguments, if no efforts are made to corroborate the various editions that have stemmed, over the centuries or even millenniums, from the “authentic” or the“authoritative” original source.
