UCL Library Agreement UCL Library Service Agreement with Academic Departments
I. What UCL Library will undertake to do (during term)
1. To designate senior Library staff to liaise with departments and to offer a quick and efficient response to departmental initiatives
2. To order Library materials within 5 working days of the acquisitions section receiving book suggestions, or to report back to the department within that time where there is a query over the suggestion
3. To process and have available for issue all core materials required for courses within 7 days of receipt from suppliers
4. To process and make available on request within 48 hours any other items awaiting processing
5. To keep the Library open as scheduled in Appendix A
6. To offer borrowing services as scheduled in Appendix B
7. To retrieve available material from store by the end of the next working day
8. To supply 75 per cent of requests for material from other libraries within 7 working days
9. To administer the provision of study packs for taught courses
10. To refer users' enquiries to the most appropriate member of Library staff and for telephone enquiries to reply within a working day or for written enquiries within 3 days of receipt
11. To offer initial Library induction to all departments by arrangement, to provide an induction programme for research students within the framework of the Graduate School, to instruct academic staff individually by arrangement, and to offer special instruction to groups of undergraduates or postgraduates by negotiation with course tutors
12. To offer as many services as practicable over the College computer network For the Online Public Access Catalogue to be available 98.5 per cent of the time College is open
13. To provide a reliable and convenient photocopying service, with repairs carried out within 24 hours and not more than 10 per cent of machines out of action at any one time
II. What academic departments are requested to do
1. To meet Library targets, academic departments are requested:
2. To nominate a member of academic staff as Library representative for the Department, and to channel all Library matters through them, and to inform the Library of developments within the Department
3. To invite subject librarians to departmental meetings when Library related matters are on the agenda
4. To provide as full a reference for items orders as possible
5. To provide reasonable time in submitting requests for purchasing material, for the Library to acquire and process it if it is required for a specific date.(Allow 5 weeks for UK material, 10 weeks for US)
6. To give 2 weeks notice for material already in stock to be placed on short loan
7. To show a current College Identity Card on entry to the Library
8. To show a current borrower's card when borrowing Library material
9. To return or renew loans by the due date
10. To co-operate with the Library over sanctions against Library defaulters
11. To provide full and accurate references when requesting items from store, or from other libraries
12. To provide full and accurate references for study pack material, and to allow sufficient time for the pack to be produced. (Guidelines provided in Appendix C)
13. To co-operate in planning user education
14. To report photocopier malfunctions to Library staff immediately.
